Dartington Morris are again hosting an annual Day of Morris Dancing in Totnes, on Saturday 16 September 2023.
This event is open to all local Morris sides from the Open Morris, Morris Federation, and Morris Ring.
It is expected that eight invited guest sides will join Dartington Morris, starting at 11am and finishing at around 3pm.
On display will be a mixture of Cotswold Morris and Border Morris.
The following sides joined us for our Day of Dance in Totnes:
- Exeter Morris (Cotswold)
- Glory of the West (Cotswold)
- Grimspound (Border)
- Lodestone Border Morris (Border)
- Plymouth Morris (Cotswold)
- Old Town Twelves
- Tinners Morris (Cotswold)
- Trigg Morris (Cotswold)
and of course the host side, Dartington Morris.
You can follow updates on this event in the future by liking the South Devon Day of Dance Facebook page.
We met at 11am at the Bay Horse Inn at the top of the town but rain made us stay in the pub for an extra 45 minutes or so (what a shame!). Some of the sides danced at the Rotherfold Square to a very modest audience of (mainly) locals, and then we moved down through the town centre, dancing at available spots on the way. Some of us called in at the King William IV on the way down.
The sides performed at various locations in the town, at Rotherfold opposite the Bull Inn, near the market square, adjacent to St Mary's church and finally the on Plains opposite the Royal Seven Stars, outside Waterside Bistro and outside the Dartmouth Inn.
All sides reported having a good time and our audiences grew as the weather cleared up. Thanks to all those that came along to support us, and to the various hostelries that fed and watered us. We hope to do it again next year!
