Day of Morris Dancing in Totnes, Saturday 14 September 2024

Morris sides attending

Dartington Morris once again hosted an annual Day of Morris Dancing in Totnes, on Saturday 14 September 2024.

We were joined by eleven guest Morris sides from the Open Morris, Morris Federation, and Morris Ring, from Devon, Cornwall, London and Essex.

Starting at 11am and finishing at around 4pm, there was a variety of Morris dance styles on display around the town centre.

You can see many fabulous photos from several sources on this Flickr Album.

See the detailed schedule (PDF file) for more info about which side performed where.

The following sides joined us:

  • Dartmoor Border Morris
  • Glory of the West (Cotswold)
  • Grimspound Border Morris
  • Harberton Navy (Cotswold)
  • Lodestone Border Morris
  • Newton Bushel (Cotswold)
  • Otter Morris (Border)
  • Plymouth Morris (Cotswold)
  • Plymouth Clog (North-West Clog dancers)
  • Thaxted Morris from Essex (plus some Belles of London City) (Cotswold)
  • The WAD from Falmouth

and of course the host side, Dartington Morris.

We started at 11am at the top of the town (meeting at the Bay Horse Inn) and at the bottom of the town on the Plains (meeting at the Dartmouth Inn). We danced at various locations in the town, including the Plains, St Mary's church and Rotherfold. The day finished on the Plains, centred on the Dartmouth Inn.

There was music and song aplenty at our pub stops!

If you need any further information, please email Martin the Bagman.
